Caw!
And a Happy New Year from the Where the birds at blog!
This post aims to highlight the incredible bird watching opportunities the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park offers to the avid bird enthusiast.
Therefore the annual Kgalagadi camping trip was met with great anticipation due to the opportunity of expanding my bird list and I must say that the Kgalagadi didn't disappoint - it delivered beyond expectation. In my memory, I saw more birds on this trip than any previous trips - especially at Nossob! Wow!
My bird list went from 175 birds to 206! It was incredible!
In addition to the common/regular species that were spotted on previous trips, my Kgalagadi list included new species I have either haven't seen in a while or have never encountered before. How exciting!
Unfortunately for some bizarre reason there was a noticeable absence of raptor encounters through the Park - we only encountered a increase of raptors on the Eastern part of the Park in Botswana.
And don't discount the wildlife of the Kgalagadi either especially at the campsites.
My Kgalagadi bird list consists of:
1. Sociable Weaver
2. Red-crested Korhaan
3. Northern Black Korhaan
4. Common Ostrich
5. Familiar Chat
6. Yellow Canary
7. Laughing Dove
